4 Healthy Spirulina Recipes

Spirulina is a green alga which is considered to be one of the great superfoods with many health benefits, particularly for vegetarians. Amongst the numerous spirulina health benefits , its anti-inflammatory properties, weight loss abilities, and an enhancement of brain functioning are the primary ones. Besides nutrients like niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, iron, copper, potassium and magnesium present in Spirulina, protein is one of its main components.

1. Lemony Spirulina Smoothie 

Lemony Spirulina Smoothie 

Ingredients required:

  • 1 tsp s pirulina powder
  • 1 banana
  • ½ tsp fresh lemon juice
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon
  • ½ avocado

How to prepare:
Simply blend all ingredients in a blender.

2. Spirulina Wrap

Spirulina Wrap  

Ingredients required :

  • A few collard leaves
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tsp spirulina powder
  • Sprinkle with sea salt, cumin, and paprika
  • Some shredded carrot and finely diced cucumber
  • 1 tbsp. hemp seeds
  • Dash of lemon juice
  • Tortilla wrap

How to prepare :
Remove the stem from large-sized collard leaves and blanch them for 5 minutes in boiling water. Mash the avocado with a fork and add the spirulina powder, lemon juice, cumin, sea salt, and paprika. Layout this mix on the collard leaf. Top it off with some finely shredded/chopped carrot and cucumber. Add the hemp seeds and then roll it up.

3. Basil pesto with Spirulina

Ingredients required :

  • 1 tsp spirulina powder
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 cup lightly toasted pine nuts
  • 3 bunches of fresh basil
  • Sea salt and black pepper according to taste
  • 1 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ cup nutritional yeast
  • Juice of one lemon

How to prepare :
First, add the basil and garlic in a food processor and blend them together. Add the olive oil and pine nuts and blend again on the pulse. Add the spirulina powder and nutritional yeast along with the lemon juice to the mixture and blend again. Add the seasoning according to your taste. Serve with pasta.

4. Spirulina frittata with broccoli

Spirulina frittata with broccoli

Ingredients required :

  • 1 tbsp. spirulina powder
  • 3 cups small chopped broccoli florets
  • 8 eggs
  • ½ sliced onion
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp. coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp. water
  • ½ cup grated cheese

How to prepare :
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Take an oven pan. Add the butter and coconut oil along with garlic and onion and fry until soft. Add broccoli, stir-fry for a minute and then add water. Add the seasoning and cook on a moderate flame. Leave to cool. Take a large bowl, add the eggs, spirulina, and grated cheese and beat.  Add the broccoli. Add more butter and coconut oil to the frying pan and place over medium flame. Add the egg/broccoli mix and cook for three minutes. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 10 minutes.
