Artificial Tears

Dryness of the eyes is one of the most common types of contact lens discomforts suffered by users. To get rid of this occasional dryness, you can use specially formulated eye drops with the advice of your doctor. Remember that not all eye drops are compatible with your contact lenses and they might end up discoloring your lenses. Also, stay away from the drops that are advertised to remove redness because they do so at the cost of shrinking the size of the blood vessels and fail to treat the root cause of your discomfort.

Punctal Occlusion

If dryness of the eyes is not letting you wear the contact lenses for a stretch of time at all, you can consider punctal occlusion. This is the process of blocking the ducts and preventing the tears from draining away your eyes. A small piece of silicone or acrylic, referred to as the punctal plug, is inserted to retain the moisture of your eye surface. Your doctor might recommend going for a temporary one before resorting to punctal occlusion.

Orthokeratology

Orthokeratology involves the use of specially-designed gas permeable contact lenses that you are required to wear overnight only and not throughout the day. The lenses reshape the front surface of your eyes overnight to enable you to see clearly in the daytime without glasses/lenses. The results are, however, temporary and the process is meant for treating contact lens-related problems only.

Nutritional Supplements

Your contact lens discomfort might be a result of your nutritional deficiency too. If your eyes lack moisture, make sure you include more of fish, salmon, and flaxseed oil full of omega-3 fatty acids in your daily diet.

Cleaning Products

Clean your contact lenses thoroughly with a doctor-recommended cleaning solution. Most type of irritations in your eyes can simply result from contact lenses that are not cleaned properly and are, therefore, damaging the surface of your eyes.

Non-Allergic Eye Makeup

Wearing eye makeup with contact lenses can be annoying, but this does not imply that contact lens wearers won’t put eye makeup at all. Just make sure that you use non-allergic makeup and take enough care to prevent your lens from getting in touch with lotions, creams etc.

Along with these, avoid non-prescription colored contact lenses that cause irritation. Above all, maintain good hygiene to ensure the protection of the lenses and safety of your eyes.
