- Clothes and shoes
Children outgrow clothes and shoes in no time. Thus after the vacation, you might find that your kid might no longer fit into some of his/her clothes or shoes. However, before heading to the store for new clothes and shoes, make your kid try on the clothes and shoes they haven’t worn for a while. Also, many brands offer back to school sales. Try shopping at those stores and utilise the coupons they offer. - School supplies
Generally, the school provides the list of high school supplies required by a child. But the basic things required include pencils, crayons, sharpeners, erasers, coloured pens, notebooks, loose sheets, and notebooks. Your child will also need a backpack. - Craft materials
Art and craft is part and parcel of school life, and hence, craft materials cannot be missed. Do not miss out on buying glue sticks, tapes, drawing and construction papers, scissors, markers, and staplers. - Organizational supplies
Calendars or organisers, binders, tiffin box (avoid plastic boxes), pencil box, folders, combination locks for school locker are the few things that need to be brought before your kid goes back to school. - Computer and study aid
In this age of computers, a parent cannot miss out on these items. Calculators or graphics calculators, index cards, ink cartridges and printing papers are some of the items that fall into this category and should not be neglected. - Other supplies
Some other important supplies that parents often miss out on including water bottles (ideally stainless steel water bottles), raincoat or a small umbrella, tissue paper pack, hand wipes, and healthy snacks.
In addition, here are a few tips to help you prepare your kids to go back to school.
- Move up your kid’s bedtime
Kids need plenty of sleep to do well at school. But after late nights during the summer vacation, it gets difficult to put your kids to bed early, and this will not happen overnight. So, make a start by moving their bedtime up by about ten to fifteen minutes every night. You might also think of getting an alarm clock for your child to help them wake up on time for school. This especially helps the kids who are reluctant to wake up for school. - Plan your kid’s lunches
It helps parents to manage their work when they plan and prepare their kid’s lunch beforehand. Stock up on some healthy snacks and buy all the stuff you need to prepare a yummy and healthy lunch for your child.

- Organize closets
Organizing your kid’s closet way before school reopens reduces the load on mommies. Getting the clothes ironed and putting things back in place helps in getting the kids leave for school on time. - Calendar Update
Maintaining a calendar is the best way to manage the busy schedules of kids. Add all important school-related items to your calendar such as their holidays, annual day, etc. Also, fill in their school activities, like soccer practice, parent-teacher meeting, etc.
This checklist will certainly come handy this fall when you prepare your kids to get back to school.
