Philadelphia Chromosome–Positive Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (Ph+ CML)
Philadelphia chromosome positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML) results when the Philadelphia chromosome, an abnormal chromosome that originates in the blood cells and bone marrow, causes high levels of abnormal cells in the bone marrow and blood. If left untreated, this can often progresses into acute leukemia. Research shows that roughly 8,900 people are expected to be diagnosed with CML in 2002.
