How to Update Your Skincare Routine For Fall

How to Update Your Skincare Routine For Fall

Your skin is the most exposed area of your body. It is forced to bear with changes in the external weather conditions and seasons – hot, dry, wet and cold. These conditions play havoc with your skin if you do not choose the right skincare products and maintain a proper skin care regime.

Much like how you upgrade your wardrobe from season to season and stock up on medical supplies for immediate care, you need to also upgrade the skincare products in your beauty closet from time to time to match seasonal changes. The fall season brings with it cold, windy and dry weather conditions that can make your skin lose its natural moisture content, as well as make it scaly and dry by depriving it of oils.

As we all know, little to no attention is paid to a proper skin care routine by most of us for different seasons of the year. It is important to reorganize, stack and switch products that will help your skin stay healthy and supple. Here are a few pointers to help you get started on that:

Ditch the soap

Fragrant soaps might leave you clean and fresh during summer, but they will not work well on your skin during colder seasons, as they lack moisturizing content. Switch to a soap-free hydrating body cleanser with essential oils to leave your skin soft, supple, light and radiant.

Change the Moisturizer

An essential everyday product that needs to be changed during the fall season is the moisturize. Moisturizer is used to hydrate skin for even tonality, and to prevent dryness, itchiness and scaly skin with the oncoming fall and harsh winters. If you have been using a moisturizer that feels lighter on your skin during summer, then it’s time to change and swap it for a heavy one with hydrating ingredients and vitamin E.

Opt for a Cleansing Scrub that Will Stimulate Oil Production

Body scrubs rich with fruits made of exfoliating properties can help treat parched, flaky and dry skin to stimulate the oil-producing glands – a much-needed body care measure for winter. You can use a body scrub once or twice a week to treat those dry areas. Post-exfoliation, follow-up with a gentle soap-free cleanser for a freshly scrubbed skin. This will not leave your skin feeling flaky, rough and dry on the surface again.

Tend to the larger pores on your skin

As we face summer, the pores on our skin tend to enlarge since we sweat a lot. However, with the oncoming fall and winter, the enlarged pores need to close by themselves, which is why you need effective cleansing agents. For example, a purifying mud mask of clay can absorb extra oil and clear dead skin to heal the large pores. This treatment should be followed up with a hydrating mask to moisturize your skin.

Protect your lips from looking chapped

The skin on your lips is highly sensitive to external weather conditions. During winter, most of us face the problem of chapped lips. So start applying non-petroleum based herbal lip balms to keep your lips moisturized, thus preventing it from becoming dry or cracked this winter.

Use a Hand and Foot Cream

The skin on your hands and the back of your palms tend to lose moisture quickly and become dry during winter. To prevent scaly itchy skin on hands, or cracks under your feet during winter, apply hand care cream for hands, as well as foot cream to keep your feet moisturized to avoid cracks under your feet.

Stay hydrated even during winter and fall

The key to a healthy glowing skin is staying hydrated at all times. During the summers, we do not need to be reminded to drink a lot of water – since our body makes us feel the need to do so frequently. However, as fall and winter approach, we tend to drink lesser amounts of water, which leaves your body dehydrated and your skin dry.

Personalization is the key to effective care

Make product changes gradually when it comes to skin care. Do not go too heavy with oily moisturizers and skin creams that will do more harm than good, to allow room for acne and breakouts. Drink a lot of water, and observe how your skin reacts to weather changes. Adjust your skincare routine to match what you need every day.

The cosmetic industry is witnessing a boom with everyone becoming increasingly more self-conscious about their appearances. However, a product which is widely used will not necessarily suit your skin type as well. Conduct a patch test first, and choose only dermatologically tested products from the stable of reputed brands in skin care

Use Hydrating Masks

Water-based hydrating masks and serums are best for soothing dry, itchy, scaly skin issues during winter. Aloe Vera gel is a great solution when it comes to soothing red skin and burns, as well as hydrating your skin.

If you start experiencing skin problems due to climate and weather changes, make sure that you are using the right products suitable for your skin type as well as the prevailing weather conditions. If you are still in doubt when it comes to determining what you need to use to treat your skin, then consult a dermatologist for medical help.
