The Best Exercises for Lower Abs

They say that “abs are made in the kitchen”. And while it is certainly true that diet plays a major role in your efforts to develop your abs, it is an exercise that ultimately determines whether you will be successful or not.

There are a number of workouts that can help you shape your lower abs. If you are new to the gym and want to know how to go about working out your lower abs, then read on to learn about some effective exercises that shall serve that purpose.

Heel Tap

This exercise will strengthen your lower flex muscles to a great extent. To do this exercise, lie down on the floor with your face up, and your hands under the butt. Your knees should be bent, and your feet should be lifted into position just like a table.

Firmly lower the flexed feet in the forward direction. Your feet should barely touch the ground. Your abs should be squeezed.

Mountain Climber

Apart from shaping your abs, this exercise helps in boosting your energy levels to a great extent.  To perform this workout, keep your body straight, lift the right foot and simultaneously draw your right knee to the chest between both hands. Once you return your right leg to the plank , repeat the aforementioned procedure with your left leg. Lift the left foot and at the same time draw your left knee to your chest between both the hands. While performing this workout, keep the core tight and do not hike your hips.

Scissor

Apart from building your lower abs, this exercise is also useful in strengthening the lower core. It’s simple to perform.

Lie down while facing up, keeping your hands behind your head. Lift your head and shoulders off the floor at the same time. Then, by using your abs, lift your legs, one by one, at the same time. Lift them slightly off the ground, and perform a scissor kick (a kick wherein your leg makes a quick snapping movement, akin to a scissor). Perform this workout in alternating positions. Make sure that no strain is placed on the neck or while jutting the chin forward.

Cross Body Climber

This exercise is probably the most effective lower abs workout. To perform this workout, form a high plank position and keep your body straight. Your hip level and core should be braced. Then, lift the left leg, and draw your left knee towards the left elbow. Similarly, lift your right leg and draw your right knee towards the right elbow. Continue this exercise while alternating your legs.
